VARIABLE RESISTANCE TRAINING WITH QBANDS

As I gained experience working in sport, I realized the importance with helping athletes to optimally use their core to resist, control and produce motion more efficiently. This became a focus of mine to effectively rehab from injury, decrease the future injury potential, and enhance performance.

 

VARIABLE RESISTANCE TRAINING AND QBANDS

Throughout my career I have always used resistance training bands in various forms. I learned early on that you can use them to enhance movement control and sports specific action training. Depending on the way the bands are configured, and what you are trying to achieve, you can facilitate or challenge specific movement directions during exercises that relate to an athlete’s game specific actions. This enables the targeting of movement directions such as hip adduction or lower back extension and rotation that have been demonstrated in the literature to increase injury risk if poorly controlled – specifically during exercises that directly transfer to the athlete’s game.

 

CONNECTING OPPOSITE ARM TO OPPOSITE LEG

A game changing strategy I learned about from one of my greatest mentors, Alex McKechnie, is that if you connect the opposite arm and leg with resistance bands, you can increase tension across the oblique fascial sling which in turn increases core activation and left - right brain neural connectivity. This has been researched and has become a central pillar in my work.

Over the years, the various band products I used didn’t have the exact design I wanted and didn’t live up to the quality standard I needed. I am someone who enjoys being creative and trying to find innovative solutions to best serve my clients! When developing the QBANDS I set out to create a product that met my standards and could also be something that helps athletes of all levels across the world.

When working in sport you are frequently on the road, and it is not practical to travel with lots of equipment so having something that is multipurpose and easy to travel with is extremely useful. I created the QBANDS to be very portable and versatile with multiple configurations so you can train all areas of the body in any location with a limited amount of space was critical.
